Davis Wince, Ltd. provided full architectural services for the renovation of Read Hall. The layout of the residence hall was restructured to create 68 resident rooms, including suites and apartment-style residences, in this 4-story facility. The mechanical systems have been upgraded such that each room will have individual fan coils, allowing its residents to control this temperature to their liking. A lavatory has been added to each room as well to help create more privacy for the students and decrease the main restroom traffic. Part of this project was a complete window and exterior door replacement. Now complete, Read Hall is a 31,500 SF facility with a new addition off of the first floor main lobby. Renovations to the lobby turned unused spaces into an open, welcoming atmosphere. The addition provides a meeting area during the day and a study area during evening hours. This addition could also serve as a classroom or seminar hall should the University decide to bring academics into residential areas.
